The Sekyere Kumawu Education Directorate has celebrated the National Professional Development Day (CPD Day) in grand style, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing teachers’ professional growth. The event, held on Friday, March 28, 2025, was part of a nationwide initiative set by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in collaboration with the National Teaching Council (NTC) to strengthen teachers’ capacity.
As part of the celebration, Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu, the District Director of Education, led a monitoring team to visit schools across the five (5) circuits within the district. The team distributed snacks to teachers and observed the Professional Learning Community (PLC) training sessions to assess their effectiveness. This effort demonstrated the directorate’s dedication to supporting teachers in their professional development.

The CPD Day provided a platform to train teachers on mental health and well-being in three parts. It covered mental health basics, stress science with KATON Live, and self-paced refresher training using the KATON Asynchronous platform to improve stress management and resilience.
Information received suggest that, each training session earned participants two (2) CPD points, with a total of six (6) CPD points upon completion. Additionally, facilitators who led the training received an extra four (4) CPD points, bringing their total accumulation to ten (10) CPD points.
To ensure a conducive environment for effective training, all Pre-Tertiary students were instructed to stay home on National CPD Day. This strategic decision allowed teachers to focus entirely on the training sessions without any classroom distractions.

Reports indicated that the GES and NTC’s primary objective was to empower teachers at the Pre-Tertiary level by emphasizing the significance of professional development.
Information received suggest that the training sessions were highly productive, equipping teachers with vital knowledge and skills to enhance their well-being and teaching effectiveness.

As the teaching profession continues to evolve, such initiatives remain crucial in ensuring that teachers are well-equipped to overcome their challenges and improve learning outcomes for students.
