Fear and shock have gripped residents of Abrem Agona in the Central Region after a recent BECE candidate, identified as James Mensah, was arrested for allegedly attacking a female teacher at St. John’s Catholic ‘B’ Basic School.
According to reports, the incident occurred during instructional hours when the student allegedly assaulted Madam Matilda Mensah, a Science teacher at the school. The situation reportedly escalated further when the suspect allegedly followed the teacher to her residence and threatened her.

The disturbing incident has sparked anger and concern among teachers and members of the community, with many describing the act as a worrying sign of growing indiscipline and disrespect toward teachers in schools.

Some teachers at the school reportedly intervened and assisted in handing the suspect over to the police for investigations to commence. The female teacher is said to be traumatised following the unfortunate incident.
Education stakeholders have also expressed concern over the increasing cases of violence and attacks against teachers in some schools across the country. Many are calling for stronger disciplinary measures and improved protection for teachers within the educational system.
The incident has once again reignited discussions about discipline, parental responsibility, and moral training among students, especially at the basic school level.
Many observers believe students must be constantly reminded that respect, discipline, and good character are essential values in society, as today’s young people will one day become adults and expect respect from future generations.
“A society that fails to protect its teachers risks weakening the very foundation of education and national development.”
