The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has announced that the payment of salary arrears owed to affected education and health workers has officially begun, bringing relief and renewed hope to thousands of workers across the country.
In a press release dated 26th May 2026, the Department stated that the arrears, which date back to August 2024, will be paid according to an approved four-month schedule. The announcement is expected to calm growing concerns among workers who have waited several months for the settlement of their outstanding payments.

According to the CAGD, the payment plan will run from May to August 2026, with beneficiaries receiving arrears in phases. The Department explained that each payment month will cover four months of arrears until all outstanding amounts are fully cleared.
The release further revealed that the first tranche of payments is expected to be completed by Friday, 29th May 2026. Many affected teachers and health workers have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a major relief after months of financial difficulties and uncertainty.
CAGD assured workers that the remaining payments would strictly follow the approved timetable and urged beneficiaries to remain patient as the process continues nationwide. The Department also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the payment exercise.
The issue of delayed salary arrears has been a major concern for many newly recruited and affected workers within the education and health sectors. Several workers have repeatedly appealed to government and relevant institutions to expedite payments due to the increasing cost of living and financial pressure on families.

The statement, signed by Mr. Cephas N. Dosoo, Head of Public Relations for the Controller and Accountant-General, thanked all affected workers for their patience and understanding throughout the delay period. The announcement is expected to bring some financial relief to many workers who have anxiously waited for the clearance of their arrears.
