OSP Declares Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta Wanted

Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice, following his failure to appear for questioning in connection with ongoing corruption investigations.

The declaration, made on Monday, 2nd June 2025, marks the second time Mr. Ofori-Atta has been labelled wanted by the OSP. Authorities had previously removed him from the list in February, after he gave assurances that he would return voluntarily for questioning. That promise, according to the OSP, was not honoured.

In a statement, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng said Mr. Ofori-Atta’s continued absence showed a “deliberate disregard for lawful processes,” and that steps are being taken to secure his return to Ghana to assist with investigations.

The probe relates to high-profile corruption cases, including alleged irregularities involving the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) and the controversial Agyapa Royalties deal. Mr. Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister from 2017 until early 2024, has denied any wrongdoing and previously cited medical reasons for his inability to return, a claim the OSP has since disputed.

The Special Prosecutor has stressed that all legal options remain on the table as his office seeks to enforce accountability and uphold the rule of law.
