Nicholas Nii Kpakpoe Addo Elected National President as Delegates Choose New Leadership Team
The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) has successfully elected a new National Executive Committee to steer the affairs of the association following the 2026 National Executives Election. The election brought together delegates from across the country to elect leaders who will champion the welfare of heads of basic schools and contribute to the advancement of quality basic education in Ghana.
Emerging as the new National President is Nicholas Nii Kpakpoe Addo, who secured 434 votes. He will be assisted by George Addai Teng, who was elected Vice President with 459 votes. The two leaders are expected to provide strategic direction and strengthen the association’s engagement with key stakeholders in Ghana’s education sector.
The position of General Secretary was won by Kingsford Osei Boateng, who polled 426 votes, while Omar Fuseini was elected Deputy General Secretary with 294 votes. The newly elected secretariat is expected to coordinate the administrative affairs of the association and ensure the effective implementation of its policies and programmes.
In the area of financial management, delegates elected Emelia Maku Kenney as Treasurer with 339 votes, while Rashid Alaru Fusheini secured the highest number of votes in the election, 501, to become the Financial Secretary. Their election reflects the confidence delegates have in their ability to promote accountability, transparency, and sound financial management within the association.
The office of Public Relations Officer was won by Huseini Abdul-Razak Hamidu, who garnered 461 votes. As spokesperson of the association, he is expected to strengthen COHBS’ public image, improve communication with members, and enhance the association’s engagement with educational stakeholders and the general public.
The election marks another important milestone in the democratic governance of COHBS and demonstrates the association’s commitment to transparent, participatory, and accountable leadership. The newly elected executives are expected to build on the achievements of their predecessors while championing policies that improve the welfare and professional development of heads of basic schools across the country.
As the new leadership assumes office, members of COHBS have expressed optimism that the executives will work collaboratively to address challenges confronting basic school heads, promote quality leadership in schools, and contribute meaningfully to the transformation of Ghana’s basic education system.
The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools also expressed appreciation to all delegates, contestants, the Electoral Committee, and stakeholders whose dedication and cooperation ensured a peaceful, credible, and successful election. The association reaffirmed its commitment to its vision of building strong educational leadership under the slogan, “We Mould Future Leaders.”
