Ladies’ Organizer’s Innovative Initiative Empowers Female Crusaders to Showcase Their Culinary Talents.
As part of activities marking the 30th Anniversary and Mega Jamboree of the Konongo-Mampong Diocesan Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), the Diocesan Ladies’ Organizer, Snr. Cr. Hannah Akua Serwaa, in collaboration with the Diocesan Executive, successfully introduced the Maiden Inter-Deanery Cooking Competition. The competition, held on Friday, 31st July, 2026 at Effiduase, was designed to promote the active participation of female Crusaders and provide a platform for them to showcase their culinary talents.
The competition was introduced to encourage greater involvement of female members in the anniversary celebrations while highlighting the importance of creativity, teamwork, and practical life skills. The initiative received widespread praise from participants and patrons, who described it as a remarkable addition to the jubilee celebrations.
Four deaneries—Jamasi, Mamponteng, Ejisu, and Konongo participated in the keenly contested competition. Each team was tasked with preparing Jollof rice, fried chicken, fresh salad, and a locally prepared beverage, demonstrating not only their cooking skills but also their creativity, presentation, hygiene, and teamwork.
After a highly competitive and exciting contest, Mamponteng Deanery emerged as the overall winner. Konongo Deanery secured second place, while Jamasi Deanery and Ejisu Deanery jointly placed third. The judges commended all participating teams for their outstanding culinary skills, creativity, and impressive presentation.
The cooking competition attracted enthusiastic support from Crusaders, patrons, clergy, and invited guests, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the event. Spectators applauded the contestants for their dedication and expressed the hope that the competition would become a permanent feature of future diocesan anniversaries and jamborees to continue nurturing and showcasing the talents of female Crusaders.
The participants and observers particularly commended Snr. Cr. Hannah Akua Serwaa, the Diocesan Ladies’ Organizer, for her visionary leadership and innovative initiative. They described the competition as a significant step towards empowering female Crusaders, promoting inclusiveness, and encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the Catholic Youth Organization.
The success of the maiden Inter-Deanery Cooking Competition demonstrated that the CYO continues to nurture not only the spiritual growth of its members but also practical life skills, creativity, leadership, and teamwork. The initiative added colour and excitement to the 30th Anniversary celebrations while reinforcing the organization’s commitment to developing well-rounded young Catholics under its enduring slogan, “For God and Ghana.”
