Konongo-Mampong Diocesan CYO Initiates 42 New Crusaders at Mamponteng Unit Ahead of 30th Anniversary Celebration

The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of the Konongo-Mampong Diocese has initiated 42 new Crusaders into the Ghana Catholic Youth Organization at the Mamponteng Unit in the Mamponteng Deanery. The colourful initiation ceremony took place on Sunday, 5th July 2026, and brought together church leaders, senior CYO officers, parents, parishioners, and youth from across the deanery to celebrate the growth of the organization.

The newly initiated members comprised one (1) Infant Jesus, twenty-eight (28) Young Apostles, and thirteen (13) Christian Soldiers, marking a significant milestone in the spiritual formation of the young members.

The ceremony also witnessed the swearing-in of the newly elected Unit Executive, who pledged to serve with dedication and uphold the ideals and constitution of the CYO.

Delivering the homily, Rev. Fr. Thomas Oppong Mensah, Parish Priest of Mamponteng Parish and celebrant of the Holy Mass, encouraged the newly initiated Crusaders to remain steadfast in their faith and commitment to the Church. He urged them to work diligently to keep the organization vibrant, uphold the rules and traditions of the CYO, and contribute meaningfully to both the Church and national development, reminding them of the CYO motto: “For God and Ghana.”

The Diocesan Chairman of the Catholic Youth Organization, Snr. Crusader Emmanuel Afrane, congratulated the new Crusaders for taking an important step in their journey of faith and service. He expressed appreciation to Rev. Fr. Thomas Oppong Mensah, the Parish leadership, and the entire Mamponteng Catholic community for their unwavering support towards the growth and activities of the CYO within the parish.

The ceremony was graced by several distinguished senior officers of the Diocese, including Most Snr. Crusader Vincent Baiden, Snr. Crusader Emmanuel Afrane, Snr. Crusader Alfred Kofi Kodie, Snr. Crusader Isaac Osei, and Snr. Crusader Jude Owusu Brefo. Their presence inspired the young Crusaders and reaffirmed the importance of mentorship and leadership within the organization.

As part of the programme, the Diocesan Vice Organizing Secretary, Snr. Crusader Isaac Osei, called on the Catholic faithful, parents, guardians, and well-wishers to support the upcoming 30th Anniversary Celebration and Mega Jamboree of the Konongo-Mampong Diocesan CYO. The week-long celebration is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, 28th July, to Sunday, 2nd August 2026, at Effiduase Parish in the Effiduase Deanery.

The forthcoming anniversary is expected to bring together hundreds of Crusaders from across the Diocese for spiritual formation, leadership development, community service, and fellowship. The event is also anticipated to celebrate three decades of the CYO’s commitment to nurturing young Catholics into responsible Christian leaders dedicated to serving both the Church and the nation.

“For God and Ghana” remains the guiding principle of the Catholic Youth Organization as it continues to build young people in faith, discipline, leadership, and service to humanity.
