Bodomase St. Stephen RC JHS Celebrates Cooking, Arts, and Skills Day

Bodomase St. Stephen RC Junior High School, located in the Bodomase Circuit within the Sekyere Kumawu Education District, is known for its disciplined environment and continuous improvement in academic excellence.

The school celebrated Catholic Education Week with a series of engaging and impactful activities from Monday, February 17, 2025, to Friday, February 21, 2025.

Throughout the week, students participated in various activities aimed at fostering discipline, teamwork, and practical skill development. The program commenced on Monday with a floating exercise and a clean-up activity, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and environmental awareness. Tuesday marked the grand durbar, a significant event that brought together students, teachers, and community members to celebrate the school’s achievements and mission. However, the highlight of the week that captivated the attention of many was the Cooking, Arts, and Skills display.

In an exclusive interview with GH Educate, Mr. Jude Brefo Owusu, the Headteacher of Bodomase St. Stephen RC JHS, shared his vision of nurturing the talents and skills of his pupils. He explained that the Cooking, Arts, and Skills display was designed to help students discover and develop their culinary abilities and artistic interests. According to him, the event provided an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and appreciation for traditional Ghanaian cuisine.

Culinary Showcase

One of the most exciting segments of the celebration was the cooking competition, where students, under the supervision of their house mistresses, prepared a variety of delicious local dishes. Each group was assigned a specific meal, demonstrating their cooking prowess and food presentation skills.

The meals prepared were as follows:

  • Group 1: Fufu and Light Soup, accompanied by Homemade Fruit Juice
    • Supervisor/House Mistress: Madam Helina Boatemaa

  • Group 2: Konkonte and Groundnut Soup, served with Zonkom (a drink made with rice)

  • Group 3: Banku and Okro Stew, paired with Sobolo (hibiscus drink)

Each group took great pride in their culinary efforts, from ingredient selection to food preparation and final presentation. The dishes were judged based on taste, hygiene, creativity, and overall presentation.

At the end of the cooking competition, Mr. Brefo Owusu expressed his delight and admiration for the students’ remarkable display of skills and dedication. He was particularly impressed by their ability to prepare well-seasoned and delicious meals, complemented by aesthetically pleasing food presentations.

“I am overwhelmed by the commitment and talent our students have demonstrated today. Their enthusiasm and teamwork have resulted in mouth-watering dishes, all beautifully garnished and professionally served,” he stated.

Beyond just an academic exercise, the Cooking, Arts, and Skills Day was an avenue to instill valuable life skills in the students. The event not only celebrated Ghanaian cuisine but also encouraged students to explore their creative potential in various forms of art and craftsmanship. The Headteacher emphasized that such activities are essential in equipping students with practical knowledge that can serve them well in the future.

“We are looking forward to seeing a promising future in these young ones. Through these initiatives, we hope to nurture the next generation of chefs, artists, and skilled professionals,” Mr. Brefo Owusu concluded.
