The 74th Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), currently being hosted in Accra, is scheduled to officially conclude today after days of high-level deliberations on the future of education and assessment in West Africa.
The important regional gathering brought together key stakeholders, including education ministers, policymakers, and examination experts from WAEC member countries; Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in the administration of examinations, improving assessment systems, and addressing critical issues such as examination malpractice and digital transformation in testing.
A major highlight of the event was the participation of Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who officially opened the meeting earlier this week. She emphasized the need for integrity, transparency, and collective responsibility in safeguarding the credibility of examinations across the sub-region.
The WAEC Council Meeting remains one of the most significant educational gatherings in West Africa, shaping policies that directly impact millions of students, teachers, and institutions annually.
As the meeting wraps up today, expectations are high that resolutions reached will further strengthen WAEC’s role in maintaining academic standards and promoting quality education across the region.
