One of the key highlights of the event was Ghana’s recognition for being among the 15 countries out of 198 UNESCO member states to have successfully integrated AI into its school curricula.

During the panel discussion on the first day of the event, Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), provided valuable insights into the strides Ghana has made in this regard. He elaborated on the AI Competency Framework for Students, developed in collaboration with UNESCO, which outlines the essential skills and knowledge students need to explore an AI-driven world.

Ghana’s achievement in this area serves as a model for other countries looking to embark on similar educational reforms. The country’s efforts were praised, particularly for the strategic approach taken in aligning AI with educational goals, ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Dr. Nkansah also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Honorable Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, for his unwavering support in advancing AI education in Ghana. He further thanked UNESCO for providing a platform to share Ghana’s progress and learn from the experiences of other countries.

This exchange of ideas and practices is expected to contribute significantly to the global discourse on AI in education, enhancing the collaboration and innovation among UNESCO member states.
