H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the President of Ghana, has appointed Professor Ernest Kofi Davis as the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Prior to his appointment, Prof. Kofi Davis served as the Provost of the College of Education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC). His extensive experience in the education sector, coupled with his track record of academic and administrative leadership, has been acknowledged by the President as a key asset that will help enhance the quality of education at the pre-tertiary level across the nation.
President Mahama emphasized that Prof. Davis’s appointment aligns with the government’s vision to strengthen education delivery and ensure that Ghana’s pre-tertiary education system remains a model of excellence in the sub-region. Prof. Davis is expected to bring innovative policies, strategic leadership, and a renewed focus on teacher development, infrastructure improvement, and student performance outcomes.
Prof. Kofi Davis is set to assume his role as Director-General of GES on Monday, January 27, 2025, pending his official confirmation. His appointment comes as he succeeds the outgoing Director-General, Dr. Eric Nkansah.
Since the announcement of his appointment, Prof. Davis has received congratulatory messages from colleagues, stakeholders in education, and members of the general public. Many have expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on the mandate of the GES, citing his deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within Ghana’s education sector.
