In a recent statement, Dr. Doris Uzoka Anite, who is Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, the medical doctor and financial analyst stated that the “End Bad Governance in Nigeria” protest has cost the country’s economy an estimated 500 billion Nigerian Naira.

According to here the unrest has led to the destruction of goods worth around N52 billion, with a tragic death toll reaching 21 so far.

Dr. Anite expressed deep sorrow over the lives lost and highlighted the economic setbacks faced by businesses and entrepreneurs across the country due to widespread looting. The minister shared this in a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The loss of lives during the protests is saddening. My thoughts are with the families affected. The looting, resulting in billions lost, is a severe setback for our economy and entrepreneurs. Let’s honour those we’ve lost by striving for more peaceful and constructive dialogue.

The protest, which aimed to challenge bad governance, has left a significant mark on Nigeria’s economy, with lasting consequences for the nation’s business landscape.

Earlier last week, President Tinubu addressed the nation and called for calm ordering the state security agencies to deal with all persons who make attempt to take the law into their own hands.

It would be recalled that over the past weeks some Nigerian youth have been protesting against what they call “Bad governance” in the West African nation. The protests began peacefully but have turned violent in some states like Kano, Kaduna and Sokoto, leading to deaths and destruction of property.

Our prayers and thoughts are with our brothers in Nigeria.
