New GES Council Inaugurated to Strengthen Pre-Tertiary Education

The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated a 12-member Governing Council for the Ghana Education Service (GES), tasking them with the responsibility of guiding policy and reform across the country’s pre-tertiary education landscape.

Chaired by Professor Mawutor Avoke, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, the newly constituted Council is expected to offer strategic direction and oversight to strengthen educational delivery at the basic and secondary levels.

The Council draws representation from key educational institutions and stakeholder groups, including:

Dr. Rosemond Wilson – West African Examinations Council (WAEC)

Prof. Azeko Tahiru Salifu – National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NASIA)

Mr. Adam Adu Marshall – National Teaching Council (NTC)

Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie – National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA)

Rt. Rev. Paa Solomon Grant-Essilfie – Teacher Associations (rotational seat)

Mrs. Mamle D. Andrews – Chief Director, Ministry of Education

Mrs. Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye – Local Government representative

A representative from Faith-Based Organisations

Adamu Bintu Fati – Non-Teaching Staff representative

Florence Bobi – Female Educationist

Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis – Director-General of GES

Minister Iddrisu emphasized the government’s commitment to revitalising pre-tertiary education and encouraged the Council to provide leadership that would enhance learning outcomes nationwide.
