The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially launched its Youth Manifesto at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Accra, on Monday, August 12, 2024, under the theme “The Pledge.”
Mr. John Mahama, the leader and flagbearer of the party, made a series of commitments to the Ghanaian youth during the event. In the preamble of the manifesto, Mr. Mahama acknowledged the vital role that young people play in the socio-economic development of Ghana. He remarked that, although Ghana has achieved significant progress since independence, the situation for the youth has become increasingly dire in recent years.
Under the current leadership of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr. Mahama pointed out that challenges such as high unemployment, difficulties faced by young entrepreneurs, resource mismanagement, and a failing education system have escalated.
Despite these pressing issues, Mr. Mahama expressed his understanding of the youth’s frustration and concerns. He urged that giving up is not a viable option and emphasized that perseverance is crucial. As a hopeful candidate for the presidency in the upcoming election, Mr. Mahama promised to create more opportunities for the youth and to implement policies that will benefit everyone.
