Great News for Ghanaian Teachers: Salary Arrears Finally Approved
In a significant development that will bring relief to thousands of teachers across the country, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the approval of long-awaited salary arrears.
According to an internal memorandum released by the GES Headquarters, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has given the green light for the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to begin processing payments for eligible staff.

The arrears, which cover the period from August 1, 2024, to November 2025, will be paid in structured instalments over the coming months.
Key Details of the Arrears Payment Plan
This is not a lump-sum payment. Instead, the government has opted for a phased approach to ease the financial burden on the state while ensuring teachers receive what they are owed.
Here is the official breakdown as contained in the GES letter (Ref. No. GES/DD-G(MS)/1/26/212):
Payment Schedule (5 Instalments):
- May ā 4 months of arrears
- June ā 4 months of arrears
- July ā 4 months of arrears
- August ā 4 months of arrears
Total: 16 months of arrears (from August 2024 to November 2025) covered across the payment plan.
Teachers are advised to confirm the fifth instalment schedule with their school heads or regional directors.
