Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed claims that his office has been allocated 78 million Ghana cedis for propaganda activities.
Speaking on The Key Points, a popular show on TV3, a popular private broadcaster in Ghana held on Saturday, he clarified that the amount in question is intended for three key state agencies under his supervision: the Information Services Department (ISD), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), and Ghana News Agency (GNA). He further revealed that the sum is even insufficient for the operational needs of these agencies, pointing out that GBC alone requires 36 million Ghana cedis to establish a presence in Ghana’s six new regions.
Kwakye Ofosu also described his office as modest, consisting of just one room and a small reception area. He insisted that he has no need for such an excessive budget, stating, “We don’t need 78 million, and I don’t need capital expenditure beyond the furniture I sit on.”
The Minister also highlighted his personal sacrifices, revealing that he has declined certain state entitlements, including police guards and domestic staff. He noted that he personally funds his longtime driver’s salary, rather than relying on government resources.
Are these remarks going to “set the record straight and dispelling any misconceptions” about the budget allocation for his office?
