Information circulating on social media indicates that the Kumawu Traditional Council, led by Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, Kumawumanhene, has officially announced plans to celebrate the much-anticipated Papa-Nantwi Festival. The festival, which honors the rich history, customs, and traditions of Kumawu, is traditionally held every two years during the Second Akwasidae.
This information was shared on the official Facebook page, Akyerema Palace.
According to the announcement, the grand durbar of the Papa-Nantwi Festival is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Kumawu Royal Palace (Akyerema Palace).
The event serves as a platform to showcase the strength and resilience of men, a key feature demonstrated in the cutting of the cow (Nantwi), a symbolic act that highlights endurance and bravery.
Information gathered by GH Educate Media indicates that this historic festival has not been celebrated for over 17 years. Reports reveal that the last time the Papa-Nantwi Festival was held was in 2007. Its long absence has heightened anticipation among the people of Kumawu, who are eager to witness and participate in the grand celebration once again.
The festival is expected to draw traditional leaders, dignitaries, and members of the Kumawu community from far and near. It will be a moment of cultural revival, unity, and a reaffirmation of Kumawu’s rich heritage.
