The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed as false a social media publication claiming that the Director-General of GES has cancelled the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy and directed parents and guardians to pay GH¢1,500 for chop boxes and trunks.
In an immediate release signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, Management described the publication as false and urged the public to disregard it.
GES says Free SHS has not been cancelled
According to the Service, the Free SHS policy remains in place, and the Director-General has not issued any directive requiring parents or guardians to make payments for chop boxes, trunks or any other item under the policy.
GES further clarified that the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service does not have the authority to cancel the Free SHS policy.
“Management has not cancelled the Free SHS policy, nor has the Director-General issued any directive requiring parents or guardians to pay any money for chop boxes, trunks or any other item.”
Parents warned not to make payments
GES has consequently advised parents, guardians, students and the general public not to make any payments to anyone based on the information circulating on social media.
The Service encouraged the public to rely on official announcements communicated through the authorised channels of the Ghana Education Service and to exercise caution when dealing with unverified information online.
GES also called on members of the public and media organisations to desist from creating, publishing or circulating false information that could cause unnecessary anxiety and confusion among parents, students and the wider public.
The clarification comes amid growing discussions and information circulating online about arrangements for students entering Senior High School, making it important for parents and guardians to verify such claims before taking any financial action.
GH Educate will continue to share verified education-related updates and official announcements from the Ghana Education Service and other relevant authorities.
