GES Opens 2026 Teacher Promotion Application Portal from PS to DD

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially opened the 2026 Teacher Promotion Application Portal for serving teachers and officers seeking promotion to the ranks of Principal Superintendent (PS), Assistant Director II (AD II), Assistant Director I (AD I), and Deputy Director (DD).

According to the official promotion advertisement dated 18 August 2026, applications are being invited from suitably qualified serving teachers and officers for consideration for promotion to the four ranks.

Qualifications for the 2026 Teacher Promotion

The GES has outlined specific eligibility requirements for each rank.

1. Deputy Director (DD)

An applicant seeking promotion to Deputy Director should have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director I (AD I) in or before 2022 and must have been continuously at post since the date of that promotion, except for periods of approved leave of absence.

2. Assistant Director I (AD I)

For promotion to Assistant Director I, an applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director II (AD II) in or before 2022 and must have been continuously at post since the date of promotion, subject to approved periods of leave of absence.

3. Assistant Director II (AD II)

Applicants seeking promotion to Assistant Director II should have been promoted to the rank of Principal Superintendent in or before 2022 and must have been continuously at post since the date of promotion, except for approved leave of absence.

4. Principal Superintendent (PS)

For promotion to Principal Superintendent, an applicant should have been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent I (SSI) in or before 2022 and must have been continuously at post since that date, excluding periods of approved leave of absence.

The GES also states that an applicant who has obtained an approved undergraduate degree can apply for upgrading to be placed on the Principal Superintendent rank.

Teachers with Master’s or PhD Degrees

The advertisement also provides clarification for teachers and officers who intend to rely on Master’s or Doctorate degrees to join the promotion interviews out of turn.

The Master’s or PhD programme must be on the approved GES course of study. In addition, the certificate should not have been obtained before the applicant’s previous promotion.

For applicants using a Master’s or PhD certificate for promotion to AD I, AD II or Deputy Director, the certificate should have been obtained in or before 2023.

How to Apply for GES Teacher Promotion

The 2026 promotion application is to be completed online. Applicants are required to complete the application form through the designated GES promotion application link provided in the official advertisement.

Applicants are required to upload the following documents:

  • A passport-sized photograph in JPEG, JPG or PNG format.
  • The applicant’s last promotion, appointment or upgrading letter.
  • The highest academic certificate being used to apply for the promotion.

The GES further directs that all uploaded documents, except the passport-sized photograph, must be in PDF format. Applicants should ensure that all documents are clear and legible before uploading them.

Application Period and Deadline

The application window opens on Tuesday, 19 August 2026, and closes on Tuesday, 24 September 2026.

Teachers who meet the requirements are therefore encouraged to prepare their documents and complete their applications within the stated period. Applicants should also carefully review the information they provide before submitting their forms to avoid mistakes that could affect their applications.
