Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Foreign Minister and Member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region, has openly stated that state capture is dead under President Mahama’s administration.

The statement was shared on his official Facebook page following the launch of a Code of Conduct for government officials by President Mahama, which prohibits appointees from acquiring state assets either directly or indirectly.

Hon. Ablakwa emphasized that President Mahama made it clear that any appointee who violates this code will be dismissed and the asset in question will be retrieved.

He further explained that state assets have now been defined to include all government-owned properties such as lands, bungalows, hotels, vehicles, forests, etc.

The Minister expressed his delight that the anti-state capture campaign he championed while in opposition has not been abandoned and that the NDC government is keeping faith with the Ghanaian people.

Hon. Ablakwa also revealed that the newly introduced Code of Conduct provides further momentum for his Private Member’s Bill, currently before Parliament, which seeks to ban politically exposed persons from purchasing state assets.
