Samsung Electronics and the global technology industry are in mourning following the sudden passing of Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and Co-CEO of Samsung Electronics, at the age of 63. Han joined Samsung in 1988 and quickly rose through the ranks due to his unmatched technical expertise and strategic vision. In December 2021, Han was appointed Vice Chairman and Co-CEO, leading the Device eXperience (DX) Division. In this role, he pioneered AI and IoT integration, transforming Samsung’s products into a connected, smart ecosystem.
He was also a champion of sustainability, driving eco-friendly product innovations and advocating for greener manufacturing processes. Han’s leadership not only reshaped Samsung’s business strategy but also set a precedent for how tech giants can embrace environmental responsibility.
Han’s unexpected death comes at a critical time for Samsung, as it faces rising competition in AI chips and memory technology. Industry analysts have expressed concern about how the company will navigate these challenges without one of its strongest strategic minds.
Jun Young Hyun, Samsung’s semiconductor CEO, will now serve as the company’s sole CEO, inheriting the responsibility of steering the tech giant forward.
Han Jong-hee is survived by his wife and three children. His passing is a monumental loss for both Samsung Electronics and the global tech industry.
