The Government of Ghana, on Tuesday, March 5, 2025, hosted the President’s Independence Day Awards.
At the event, 52 outstanding students from across Ghana’s 16 regions received Presidential Awards for their exceptional academic achievements in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The ceremony was attended by distinguished personalities, including Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana; Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education; and Prof. Ernest Kofi Davies, Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), among others.
The awards ceremony, presented by H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on behalf of the President, recognized students who demonstrated academic excellence in both public and private schools.
The President’s Independence Day Awards was established in 1993 with the aim of:
- Rewarding academic excellence.
- Recognizing outstanding students in public and private schools.
- Promoting inclusive education by encouraging students with additional educational needs.











Reports indicate that the selection criteria for the 2024 awards were based on raw scores obtained from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). Awards were given to:
- Two students from each region’s public schools.
- One student from each region’s private schools.
- The national best students with visual and hearing impairments.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has congratulated these exceptional students on their well-deserved recognition and wished them continued success in their academic pursuits.
