The Ministry of Interior has announced that Monday, September 23, 2024, will be observed as a statutory public holiday in Ghana.
According to a press release, Saturday, September 21, 2024, marks Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, which is a statutory public holiday dedicated to commemorating the legacy of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
However, since September 21 falls on a Saturday this year, the President of the Republic, in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), has issued an Executive Instrument (E.I) to declare Monday, September 23, 2024, as an additional public holiday.
This decision ensures that the observance of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day is upheld despite the original date falling on a weekend.
The Ministry further emphasized that the general public is expected to observe this day as a public holiday across the entire country. This holiday provides an opportunity for all Ghanaians to reflect on the contributions of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah towards the nation’s independence and development.
The Ministry urges the public to take note of this declaration and observe the day accordingly.
