The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed Heads of Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) to strictly comply with a new directive on students’ enrolment and admissions for the 2026 placement cycle.
According to the GES, the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) has been enhanced for the 2026 placement cycle to include a built-in enrolment component, creating an end-to-end system for the placement and enrolment of students into second-cycle institutions.
No expansion of vacancies after confirmation
Under the directive, once vacancies have been declared, validated and confirmed on the CSSPS, schools will not be allowed to expand their approved vacancies.
GES states that the exact number of students placed through the CSSPS will constitute the approved enrolment for each school.
Heads of schools are therefore not permitted to admit any student outside the CSSPS.
Heads who admit students outside CSSPS face sanctions
A letter sighted by GH Educate warned that any Head of School found to have admitted students outside the CSSPS, following confirmation through enrolment data validation, shall be sanctioned in accordance with the applicable regulations and the Code of Ethics.
The directive is contained in a GES letter dated 18 September 2026 and signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi (Mrs.), Deputy Director-General (MS), for the Director-General.
