Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has called for a national push to restore discipline and respect for authority in schools, urging heads of institutions not to hesitate in enforcing disciplinary codes.
“Don’t hesitate to dismiss students who disregard disciplinary codes,” the Minister stated firmly, as he addressed recent concerns about rising levels of indiscipline in both basic and second cycle schools.
The Minister’s comment reflect growing anxiety among educators and stakeholders about the impact of weak enforcement of school rules on learning outcomes and moral development.
While affirming the importance of upholding the rights of students, Hon. Iddrisu emphasised that schools must not become places where order is sacrificed in the name of leniency.
“We cannot allow the classroom to become a place where rules are optional and responsibility is negotiable,” he added.
The Minister’s message was a clarion call to teachers, parents, and school administrators to collaborate in shaping a learning environment that balances discipline with dignity, and structure with support.
The general public says the Minister’s remarks reinforce a national conversation about values, accountability, and the role of education in producing not just skilled graduates, but responsible citizens.
