The Government of Ghana has officially banned all political appointees from accessing state-funded scholarships as part of a broader effort to protect public resources and promote fairness in educational support.
Announcing the ban, the Registrar of Scholarships, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, said the decision reflects President Mahama’s commitment to transparency and equity under the “Mahama Cares” agenda. He emphasized that the scheme should benefit only academically qualified and financially needy Ghanaians — not individuals with political connections.
“This ban is to ensure that scholarships go to the right people,” Dr. Agyemang said. “We must protect the integrity of this intervention and give every deserving Ghanaian a fair chance.”
The new directive also includes tougher screening processes, regular audits, and public reporting of beneficiaries to ensure transparency and accountability.
