Ghanaian Parliament Approves GH₵65.9 Million Budget for Sports and Recreational Ministry

Ghana Approves Budget for Sports Ministry

The Parliament of Ghana has approved an allocation of GH₵65.9 million for the operations and activities of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the year 2025.

The budget approval, however, came with concerns from some Members of Parliament (MPs) over the lack of allocation for maintaining sports infrastructure in the country.

The total approved budget amounts to GH₵65,899,456.

According to Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, the Accra Sports Stadium will undergo extensive renovations after Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.

However, MPs such as Dominic Nitiwul and Frank Annoh-Dompreh raised concerns about the need for a dedicated budget specifically for sports infrastructure maintenance to ensure proper accountability and improved facilities across the country.

Mr. Nitiwul suggested that the leadership should explore ways to reallocate funds to support the Sports Ministry’s capital expenditure. He emphasized that Ghana’s sports development must be a priority for the government and all stakeholders.
