In a shocking turn of events, the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damongo, the capital of Ghana’s Savannah Region, was set ablaze on Sunday afternoon by a group of agitated youth. The incident occurred amidst rising frustrations over delays in announcing the 2024 presidential and parliamentary election results.
Eyewitnesses recount that the youth initially gathered peacefully outside the EC office, demanding updates after waiting all day without communication. However, tensions escalated when rumors of alleged irregularities in the collation process began to circulate.
The lack of timely updates from election officials fueled the crowd’s anger, culminating in a section of the group forcibly entering the premises and setting it on fire.
