The Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG) has called off its strike action following a meeting with the government team on Monday, 19th August 2024.
The government team at the meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), Ministry of Education (MOE), Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ministry of Finance (MOF), Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and the Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF). The meeting, held in the MELR Conference Room, aimed to address the concerns of CETAG members.
The meeting began at 10:07 a.m. The following outcomes were agreed upon:
- Both parties agreed to adopt the nomenclature, Scheme of Service, and Conditions of Service used by their affiliated universities (Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor) for the migration of the Colleges of Education.
- It was agreed that payments reflecting the migration will be made in October 2024. Following this, the parties will meet to discuss the payment plan for any outstanding arrears.
- Regarding compensation for all year-round work, the Ministry of Finance has completed the necessary groundwork for validated colleges and forwarded the information to the Ministry of Education for payment by the end of August.
CETAG requested that the government pay the salaries for July 2024, which were frozen due to the strike. The government team expressed willingness to make the payment once CETAG officially calls off its strike action.
CETAG representatives present at the meeting agreed to consult with their council by the end of 20th August 2024 to finalize the decision to end the strike.
