Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), took great pride in inaugurating a Digital Repository that he personally funded for Wesley Girls Senior High School on Wendnesday, 28th February, 2024. This initiative, conceived in memory of my late mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia – a distinguished alumna of the institution – marks a significant step towards modernizing and preserving the rich legacy of Wesley Girls Senior High School.
Dr. Bawumia indicated that Wesley Girls Senior High School, with its formidable presence in the academic field spanning 187 years, stands as a beacon of educational excellence. The establishment of this digital repository is poised to be a valuable asset, offering a seamless avenue for past students, present scholars, and the dedicated staff to access and retrieve crucial school records with unparalleled ease.
He further stated that the genesis of this project is rooted in a stirring moment following my mother’s passing in 2021. The compassionate gesture of her classmates from the 1960 year group, who came to share their condolences with me and the family, left an indelible impression. Subsequently, on the first anniversary of my mother’s demise, the Old Girls’ Association, representing the esteemed institution, approached me to contribute towards the creation of a digital repository for the school. Moved by the profound connection to my mother’s legacy, I wholeheartedly endorsed and supported this initiative.
The realization of this project has brought about the digitization of all student records, transforming them into easily accessible digital formats. In a world driven by technology, this repository ensures that the invaluable history and accomplishments of Wesley Girls Senior High School can be retrieved with just the touch of a button. It not only streamlines administrative processes but also safeguards the school’s historical records for generations to come.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Vice President had the distinct honor of hosting three remarkable individuals who shared a special bond with my mother – Mrs. Nancy Thompson, Dr. Mrs. Cecelia Bentsi, and Dr. Mrs. Matilda Papoe. Their presence added a touch of nostalgia and significance to the occasion, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to them. May God bless these pillars and keep them safe.
As we celebrate this milestone for Wesley Girls Senior High School, my fervent hope is that other educational institutions, yet to embark on a similar journey, will take inspiration and follow suit. The benefits of digitizing records are manifold, transcending the realms of convenience and efficiency. It is a testament to our commitment to preserving the heritage of our educational institutions, ensuring that they evolve with the times while cherishing their stories of the past, Dr. Bawumia added.
The inauguration of the Digital Repository at Wesley Girls Senior High School stands as a poignant tribute to my late mother, encapsulating her enduring legacy and commitment to education. It is a symbol of progress, unity, and foresight, echoing the school’s longstanding tradition of excellence. May this initiative serve as a catalyst for positive change in the broader educational sphere, fostering a culture of innovation and preservation.
