Ghanaian boxer Elvis Ahorgah, known as “The Soldier,” stepped into the ring at Wembley Arena with a mission to dethrone Callum Simpson and claim the Commonwealth super-middleweight title. But despite his fearless approach and explosive moments, he fell to a fifth-round stoppage at the hands of the British champion.

In the lead-up to the fight, Ahorgah was anything but quiet. He promised to humble Simpson, warning that the Briton had never faced a fighter as relentless as him. At the press conference, he taunted the champion, vowing to send him “back to Barnsley in pieces.” His confidence was unshaken, as he declared:

But inside the ring, it was Simpson who dictated the battle, forcing Ahorgah to fight for survival rather than victory.

Ahorgah, never one to back down, made his presence felt even before the fight. At the pre-bout press conference, he brought the intensity, launching a verbal assault on Simpson, determined to rattle the Barnsley fighter. Inside the ring, he carried that same energy, engaging in wild exchanges that thrilled the crowd but left him vulnerable.

From the opening bell, Ahorgah found himself under pressure. Simpson’s fast hands and relentless attack pushed him back, forcing him to cover up. But the Ghanaian refused to fold. In the second round, he landed a solid left hook that snapped Simpson’s head back, a brief moment that showed his power and intent.

As the fight wore on, however, Simpson’s precision began to tell. Ahorgah swung with power, looking for a knockout shot, but his opponent remained composed, responding with sharp combinations. By the fourth round, Simpson’s left hook to the body and head forced Ahorgah to invite him in—a show of defiance. Yet, the punches kept coming.

The fifth round proved decisive. A right uppercut followed by a crushing left hook left Ahorgah staggered. He fought to stay on his feet, but another right hand sent him stumbling. Rising at the count of nine, the referee deemed him unable to continue, waving off the contest at 1:53 of the round.

Though the night ended in defeat, Ahorgah left the ring with his fighting spirit intact. He may not have claimed the title, but he gave the crowd a show—a warrior who, despite the odds, came forward, fought hard, and made Simpson earn his victory.
