Renowned Ghanaian businessman, lawyer and media entrepreneur Stephen Boateng, popularly known as Kessben or Kwabena Kesse, has reportedly passed away.
Reports of his death emerged on the morning of Thursday, August 20, 2026, sending shockwaves across the Ashanti Region and Ghana’s business and media communities.
However, official confirmation from his family, representatives or the management of Kessben Media had not been issued at the time of publication. The cause of the reported death is also not yet known.
Who was Kessben?
Stephen Boateng, widely known as Kessben, was one of Ghana’s prominent entrepreneurs, with business interests spanning media, education, finance, hospitality and other sectors.
He was the founder and leading figure behind the Kessben Group of Companies, which has interests including Kessben FM, Kessben TV, Aseda TV, Kessben University College, Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre, and other businesses.
He was also a trained lawyer and was publicly known in recent years as Lawyer Stephen Boateng.
Beyond business, Kessben was known for his philanthropic activities, particularly through the Kessben Outreach Foundation. The foundation supported educational and community development projects, including the construction of a six-unit classroom block at Kansanso in the Asante Akyem North District.
His contribution to education and community development also included support for institutions such as KNUST, where he funded the refurbishment of facilities at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
News of the reported passing has already generated an outpouring of grief and tributes online, particularly from people within the Ashanti Region and Ghana’s business and media circles.
