Apple says it will fix a new AI feature on its iPhones after complaints about wrong news alerts. The tool, called Apple Intelligence, is supposed to summarize news from apps, but it has made some big mistakes.
What Happened?
Last month, the users including popular news outlet the BBC complained when one of these AI-generated summaries falsely said that Luigi Mangione, a man accused of a crime, had shot himself.
Another error happened recently when the AI incorrectly claimed that Luke Littler had won the PDC World Darts Championship before the event even started. It also wrongly said that Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal had announced he was gay.
In an official complaints released by the BBC, it said these mistakes are serious because the summaries made it look like the information came from the BBC itself.

What Is Apple Doing About It?
Apple said it will release an update in a few weeks to make it clearer when the news summaries are created by its AI tool. It also said that using the feature is optional, and people can report problems with it.
The feature, which is still being tested, is available on some of Apple’s newest devices, like the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro. It combines notifications from apps into one summary to make it easier to read.
Why Does This Matter?
When AI tools make mistakes like these, it can spread false information, which confuses people. An organization called Reporters Without Borders has asked Apple to stop using the feature until it works better.
Apple is not the only company facing problems with AI tools. Google has also had issues with its AI giving wrong answers in its search results.
What’s Next?
Apple says it is working to improve the AI tool with user feedback. The company plans to release an update soon to make the summaries more accurate.
For now, what GH Educate can advise is that, it’s a good idea to double-check news you see on your phone to make sure it’s correct!
