Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister for Roads and Highways, delivered a keynote address on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the 733rd National Day of the Swiss Confederation. The event took place at the residence of Her Excellency Simone Giger, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Ghana, on Friday, August 30, 2024, in Accra.
In his address, Hon. Asenso-Boakye highlighted the longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship between Ghana and Switzerland. He emphasized that the bilateral ties between the two nations have fostered a deep and enduring friendship and bolstered economic cooperation.
Hon. Asenso-Boakye emphasized on the remarkable growth in trade between Ghana and Switzerland, citing that trade volumes have more than doubled, increasing from $1.5 billion in 2019 to over $3 billion in 2023. He noted that this impressive growth in trade is a testament to the strength of the economic partnership between the two nations
The Minister for Roads and Highways also pointed out that Ghana is committed to further strengthening its collaboration with Switzerland, particularly in key sectors such as road construction, tourism, and technology development. He emphasized that these sectors hold immense potential for fostering innovation, creating jobs, and enhancing the quality of life for the people of both nations.
Hon. Asenso-Boakye reiterated that Ghana places great value on its economic relations with Switzerland and is eager to build on the solid foundation that has been established over the years. He expressed optimism that the two nations will continue to work closely together to achieve even greater success in the future, leveraging their strong partnership to address common challenges and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
He thanked Her Excellency Simone Giger and the Swiss government for their continued support and friendship, expressing hope that the partnership between Ghana and Switzerland will continue to flourish in the years to come.
