The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed as false reports suggesting that he intends to approach President John Dramani Mahama to seek assurances of safe passage for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
In a statement dated December 16, 2025, the former president’s office said its attention had been drawn to a publication by The Herald newspaper, which was later reproduced by other media outlets. The publication alleged that Nana Akufo-Addo was considering engaging President Mahama regarding the safety of Ofori-Atta.
The office described the claims as “utterly false” and a “total fabrication,” stressing that the former president has neither contemplated nor made any request, directly or indirectly, to President Mahama or any of his representatives concerning Ofori-Atta.
“The Office wishes to state emphatically that this publication is utterly false. It is a total fabrication,” the statement said, adding that no such request or representation has ever been made.

The statement reaffirmed Nana Akufo-Addo’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, noting that his respect for due process has never been in doubt. While acknowledging that Ofori-Atta’s situation is of personal concern to the former president due to family ties and his role as finance minister during both Akufo-Addo administrations, the office emphasised that this concern does not extend to any attempt to interfere with legal processes.
The statement concluded by expressing hope that the clarification would set the record straight. The clarification was shared on Nana Akufo-Addo’s official Facebook page with the caption, “Kindly Disregard.”
