National Peace Council Board Urged to Uphold Ghana’s Stability

Ghana’s newly constituted Governing Board of the National Peace Council (NPC) has been urged to protect and strengthen the country’s longstanding reputation as a beacon of peace in the West African sub-region.

Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlarbi, the Deputy Minister for Interior, speaking at an orientation programme in Teiman, Accra on Tuesday, July 8, called on board members to serve with professionalism, foresight, and integrity.

He emphasised the Council’s critical role in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and promoting national cohesion, particularly ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“The peace and stability we enjoy did not happen by chance. It is the result of years of commitment and hard work by institutions like the NPC. You must uphold that tradition and act swiftly and impartially in the face of threats to our national unity,” Mr. Terlarbi said.

He encouraged the board to engage traditional authorities, civil society, religious leaders and the youth to consolidate peace efforts at all levels of society.

The new board brings together experts in mediation, interfaith dialogue, community engagement, and governance, and is expected to steer the Peace Council’s mandate over the next four years.
