The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu Blames SSNIT–Ghana Card Mismatch for Delay in Paying Over 5,000 Newly Recruited Teachers

The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has attributed the delayed payment of salaries for over 5,000 newly recruited teachers to inconsistencies between their SSNIT (Social Security and National Insurance Trust) records and Ghana Card details.

According to the Minister, these data mismatches have complicated the validation process, preventing the issuance of Staff IDs and integration of affected teachers onto the government payroll.

The teachers, recruited in 2024 and posted across various regions, have voiced frustration over the delays—some having worked for several months without pay.

Speaking during a media briefing, Hon. Iddrisu explained, “The discrepancies between personal details on SSNIT records and Ghana Cards have made it difficult for the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to complete payroll processing for the affected individuals. We are working closely with relevant agencies to resolve the matter.”

He assured the teachers that the Ministry is committed to resolving the technical glitches and ensuring that all genuinely recruited teachers are paid their due entitlements without further delay.

The Education Minister also called for patience and encouraged the affected teachers to update and harmonise their records where necessary.
