The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed the arrest of ten invigilators across the country for their alleged involvement in examination malpractices during the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
According to WAEC, the suspects are being investigated for actions that reportedly compromise the fairness and integrity of the nationwide examination. While specific details of the cases have not yet been released, WAEC says it is working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure full accountability.
The Council expressed its deep disappointment over the incidents, especially given the trust placed in invigilators to safeguard the credibility of the exam.
“Invigilators are entrusted with a critical responsibility, and any breach of that duty is a betrayal not only of WAEC, but of the thousands of honest candidates working hard for a better future,” WAEC official.
WAEC has assured the public that additional steps are being taken to strengthen monitoring and prevent further misconduct. The Council also encouraged the public, teachers, and candidates to report any suspicious activity during the examination period.
