The Ministry of the Interior has officially issued a statement of behalf of government to declare Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays in Ghana to mark this year’s Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations.
A press statement issued on Saturday, March 22, and signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, explained that Eid-Ul-Fitr will be observed on either Sunday, March 30, or Monday, March 31. However, since March 30 falls on a Sunday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, by Executive Instrument (E.I.), has designated the two subsequent days as public holidays under the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601).
Hon. Muntaka urged citizens to observe these public holidays nationwide as part of the country’s commitment to religious harmony and inclusivity.
National Observance of Eid-Ul-Fitr
Eid-Ul-Fitr, also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long period of fasting observed by Muslims worldwide. The celebration includes prayers, feasting, and acts of charity, with thousands expected to gather at mosques and public grounds across Ghana.
