Two individuals have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service on the first day of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Monday, 4th May 2026, at some examination centers in the Sekyere-Kumawu District.
According to reports, the suspects—identified as Kofi Asamoah and Bonsu Nana Sarfo—allegedly posed as official monitors from the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate, using fake identification cards to gain access to the examination centre.
Their actions raised suspicion by the District Education Director, Kwame Oduro-Owusu, together with some officials on duty, leading to their arrest and subsequent handover to the police for further investigation.
Authorities say the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with inquiries to determine the motive behind the impersonation and whether others may be involved.

The incident has heightened concerns about security at examination centres, especially during national assessments like the BECE, which require strict monitoring to maintain credibility.
Education officials have reiterated the importance of vigilance and urged supervisors and security personnel to thoroughly verify the identity of all individuals claiming to be authorised monitors.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that appropriate legal action will be taken against the suspects, while measures are being strengthened to prevent similar incidents in other centres.
