Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency and Minister of Works and Housing in Ghana, has ignited a significant discussion with his statement that “There Must be a Shift in the Minds of Ghanaians.” This remark was made during a video discussions where he shared his views on the issue of stalled housing projects in Ghana.

In the video, Hon. Oppong Nkrumah highlighted a pressing concern: the persistence of stalled projects due to political changes. He emphasized that it is counterproductive for development projects to remain incomplete simply because of shifts in political administrations. According to him, it is imperative that Ghanaians recognize the futility of allowing such projects to stagnate.

All of us must agree as Ghanaians that it doesn’t make sense for projects to be left stalled just because political administrations have changed.

Drawing from over 25 years of experience as both a public servant and politician, Hon. Oppong Nkrumah asserted that it is high time to address the issue of stalled projects decisively. He argued that the current approach, which often results in projects being abandoned or delayed due to changes in government, is unsustainable. His call to action is a plea for a more consistent and pragmatic approach to project management.

The Minister elaborated on the directives he has received from President Akufo-Addo, which clearly state that stalled projects should be revived and completed. Hon. Oppong Nkrumah indicated that he has already taken steps to ensure that these projects progress toward completion, reflecting his commitment to overcoming the challenges posed by incomplete projects.

Hon. Oppong Nkrumah proposed a paradigm shift in how Ghanaians perceive project development. He suggested that a significant portion of developmental work and projects should be carried out by the private sector and individuals with support from the government, rather than solely by the government. He stressed that if the private sector and individuals are responsible for the majority of project implementation, they are less likely to be affected by political changes, thus contributing to more consistent progress.

He asserted that the role of the government should focus on governance rather than directly undertaking construction projects.

The proposed changes, I believe, are essential for driving the country toward sustained growth and development, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated.
