An educative but emotional sculpture crafted from resin, sack, rope, paint, metal, and cement has been unveiled at the Science Shuttle Station at North Campus in the University of Cape Coast.
The mixed-media masterpiece was created by Miss Christabel Ama Asmah, a national service personnel at the department of Vocational and Technical Education (VoTEC) and the sculpture is exhibiting a powerful representation of the weighty burdens that students often goes through in their academy journey.
The resin base of the sculpture provides a resilient foundation whiles the sack and rope wrapped around the figure evoke a sense of being tied down by the pressures of academic life. The paint made up of a pop of colors in Miss Ama Asmah’s craft work draws attention to the emotional toll that these burdens can cause. The metal accents also add an industrial touch which symbolizes the harsh realities that students often face in the educational ladder. Meanwhile, the cement which holds everything together represents the resilience and determination that students need to overcome in their challenges.
According to Miss Asmah, the sculpture is a reflection of the many struggles that students face from peer pressure and financial constraints to mental overload and broken homes. Miss Asmah has created a thought-provoking piece that encourages the public to reflect on the complexities of student life.
