The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to Basic School Headteachers.
According to the release, GES has taken notice of allegations circulating on social media that some Heads of Basic Schools are imposing unauthorized BECE registration fees on final-year students.
Management of GES emphasized that such fees are unauthorized and directed all Heads to cease the practice immediately.
The letter urged all Regional Directors to instruct MMD Directors to monitor the situation and caution all Heads of Basic Schools.
It further stressed that any Head who has collected unauthorized fees must refund the monies promptly. Failure to comply will result in sanctions.
Heads of Basic Schools are also reminded that late registration of candidates will not be permitted. Therefore, all eligible candidates must be registered within the stipulated registration period set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The letter advised the general public to stay informed and take note of these directives.
