Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former Ghana Football Association President, has filed a defamation lawsuit against sports journalist Dan Kweku Yeboah and his media outlet, Peace FM, seeking GH¢10 million in damages.
According to GH Educate, the situation began when Nyantakyi recounted a story about Yeboah traveling with ‘gari’ and ‘shito’ (cassava flakes and hot pepper sauce) to Australia in 2008. Yeboah responded that there was nothing wrong with taking these items on his trip, adding that Nyantakyi should feel fortunate to have avoided punishment after being implicated in the ‘Number 12’ documentary.
Mr. Nyantakyi’s lawsuit claims that Yeboah’s comments were defamatory and have negatively impacted his reputation. However, GH Educate reports that the specific comments leading to the lawsuit are not publicly known. It’s apparent that the relationship between Nyantakyi and Yeboah has soured, with Yeboah previously remarking that he would not defend Nyantakyi amid corruption allegations.
The lawsuit has attracted significant attention in Ghanaian sports circles, with many closely following the developments. GH Educate will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to the public.
