General Mustapha emphasized the military’s commitment to democracy, asserting that any attempts to incite a coup would be met with severe consequences. “We have accepted democracy and regime change will never be allowed,” he stated firmly.

The General addressed the current state of unrest in Nigeria, noting that what initially began as a peaceful protest had escalated into widespread rioting and criminal activities. “We wanted to brief Mr President on the situation on ground. Initially, when the riot started, they said it was a peaceful one, but we have realized that there are individuals willing to take advantage of it to cause mayhem. Criminals have taken over, a lot of looting is taking place, stealing and all sorts happening,” he explained.

He highlighted the unacceptable act of flying foreign flags within Nigeria’s borders, particularly pointing out the presence of Russian flags. “We are warning in clear terms, and the President has also conveyed this, that we will not accept anybody, any individual flying any foreign flag in Nigeria. That is a treasonable offence, and it will be viewed and treated as such.”

General Mustapha also addressed the involvement of young individuals being manipulated into these actions, promising to take serious action against those responsible for pushing them. “For those of them flying flags, a lot of them are kids being pushed to do that. We’re following up with those who are sponsoring them. We have identified those areas and we are going to take serious action against that.”

The Nigerian military stands united in its mission to defend democracy and maintain national sovereignty. General Mustapha’s message is clear: any actions undermining the democratic process or compromising Nigeria’s sovereignty will not be tolerated.

By staying informed and vigilant, citizens can contribute to a stable and democratic Nigeria. The military’s commitment to safeguarding democracy remains unwavering, and actions against treasonable offenses will be pursued with the full force of the law.
