Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency, was honored at the Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry. He represented H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic, as the Guest of Honour for the event.
The theme for the meeting was “Climate Adaptation Strategies in Sustainable Infrastructure Development: The Role of the Construction Sector Players.”
The meeting was attended by Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankwaso, the Omanehene Kyeame of the Asante Juaben Traditional Area, along with management and members of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry, among others.
In his keynote address, Dr. Armah emphasized the urgent need for the construction industry to adopt sustainable practices in response to climate change, which is causing rising sea levels and extreme weather events. He highlighted the critical role the sector must play in reducing its carbon footprint and leading the development of climate-resilient infrastructure.
Dr. Armah also mentioned the government’s “Transforming the Built Environment through Sustainable Materials” initiative, launched in collaboration with international partners. This initiative, he said, is a crucial step toward decarbonizing the construction industry and ensuring a sustainable future.
He further reiterated that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 manifesto prioritizes integrating climate-resilient infrastructure and green building practices to promote environmental sustainability. Dr. Armah called on all stakeholders—developers, engineers, architects, and policymakers—to collaborate in incorporating climate adaptation strategies at every stage of infrastructure development.
“Together, we will build a resilient and sustainable Ghana,” the MP concluded, stressing the collective effort required to achieve these goals.
