The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially announced the temporary closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, starting from September 10, 2024.
In a statement issued by the NSA, it was indicated that the public is to be informed that the stadium will be closed for maintenance works from September 10, 2024, to October 6, 2024. The purpose of this closure is to allow for essential and routine maintenance of the stadium’s pitch, which is in need of attention.
Reports suggest that, the maintenance works have become necessary following the recent 1-0 defeat of the Black Stars by Angola on September 5, 2024. During the match, it was observed that the condition of the pitch was substandard, which may have contributed to the team’s defeat.
Routine maintenance is essential for preventing further deterioration and ensuring that the facility meets the standards required for both national and international sporting events.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, being one of Ghana’s most iconic sports venues, requires regular upkeep to maintain its status as a premier facility for football matches and other sporting activities.
The NSA also expressed regret for any inconvenience that the closure may cause to users of the stadium, including sports teams, event organizers, and fans. They assured the public that the maintenance works are necessary for the overall improvement of the facility and will be completed within the stipulated time frame.
During this period, stakeholders are advised to make alternative arrangements for their sporting and entertainment activities. According to the letter, the NSA is committed to ensuring that the pitch is restored to a state that meets international standards by the time the stadium reopens on October 6, 2024.
