The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has given the strongest assurance to the Chiefs and people of Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region that the long-abandoned E-Block school project located at Drobonso will soon be made operational.

Dr. Amoakohene made the announcement during a visit to the area on Saturday, 21st June, 2025 where he joined the chief of Drobonso, Otumfuo Brempong, in mourning the passing of his mother – who also happens to be the Regional Minister’s paternal grandmother.

It would be recalled that the Regional Minister made a similar promise in February of 2025 when he visited the Chiefs and people of the area.

Although the gathering was primarily meant to be a traditional mourning event, Dr. Amoakohene used the occasion to update the chief and residents on key developmental projects, including the long-delayed Community Day Senior High School, widely referred to as the E-Block.

“I am here not only as a grandson, but as your servant. I want to assure Nana and the good people of Drobonso that the E-Block project will soon be put to use. We are working closely with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Trust Fund to finalize the operationalization process,”

– Dr. Amoakohene said.

The school, part of the previous Mahama-era initiative to build 200 E-Blocks nationwide, has remained idle for years despite public demand for its use. Several of these facilities across Ghana have faced similar neglect, for reasons unknown to the “everyday Ghanaians”.

The Regional Minister also gave updates on:

Ongoing road interventions spearheaded by President Akufo-Addo to improve connectivity in the remote district.

Operationalization of the new District Hospital, which is expected to ease healthcare challenges in the area.

The announcement was met with quiet optimism by traditional leaders and community members, many of whom have consistently raised concerns about the delayed school project, especially as it could significantly improve access to secondary education in the district.

Locals believe that operationalizing the facility will open a lot of doors in the district including easy access to quality education for their wards as well as handing employment opportunities to members of the community to serve as staff of the institution.
