Carlos Manuel Brito Leal de Queiroz was born on 1st March 1953 and is a highly respected Portuguese football coach with decades of experience at both international and club levels. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a tactically astute and disciplined manager, who is known for developing competitive teams across different football cultures.
Queiroz has managed several national teams, including his native Portugal national football team, as well as the United Arab Emirates national football team, South Africa national football team, Iran national football team, Colombia national football team, Egypt national football team, Qatar national football team, and most recently the Oman national football team. His international coaching career is particularly notable for his multiple appearances at the FIFA World Cup, where he led South Africa in 2002, Portugal in 2010, and Iran in 2014, 2018, and 2022. These achievements highlight his consistency and ability to compete at the highest level of global football.
At the club level, Queiroz has managed top teams such as Sporting CP, the New York/New Jersey MetroStars (now known as New York Red Bulls), and the Spanish giants Real Madrid CF. In addition to his managerial roles, he also gained significant recognition for his two spells as assistant manager to Alex Ferguson at Manchester United FC, where he contributed to one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.
Currently, Coach Carlos Queiroz has been appointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the head coach of the Ghana national football team.
