Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, who is currently serving as the High Commissioner to Nigeria, has emerged as the winner of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The primary was held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, as the party selected its candidate for the March 3 by-election.
There have been reports of alleged inducement and vote-buying involving some aspirants.
Baba Jamal has been confirmed as the NDC candidate elected for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
Provisional results stand as follows:

- Hajia Amina Adam – 399
- Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed – 431
- Dr. Yakubu Azimdow – 45
- Najib Sani – 1
This victory paves the way for him to represent the NDC in the March 3 by-election, as the party seeks to retain the seat.
